Frequently Asked Questions
What trees suffer with Oak Wilt?
When is a good time to prune trees?
In the fall, when the sap has moved back to the tree trunk, with the exception of Live Oaks, which should be pruned in February.
Should I cut back my perennials?
Try not to, unless absolutely unsightly to you. It's better for a plant to go dormant on it's own with a natural die back. Then cut back in the spring to get rid of dead wood.
What's a good program for healthy sod?
Top dress the entire yard in the Spring with an organic compost -- 1/4" -- and work it in with a leaf rake, then water. If you feel the need to aerate the lawn, do so before composting. In the fall, fertilize with an organic dry fertilizer such as Bio-Form Dry. According to a Texas A&M University study, organic dry fertilizers only need one application per year, as opposed to two applications a year with the chemical so-called "time-release" fertilizers. A&M said those urea coated "time-release" chemical fertilizers tended to all break down and run off as soon as the sprinklers come on or a good hard rain -- and all the chemicals go down into the watershed.
